The Alphabet Sisters

I had just finished reading a book introduced by BY entitled "The Alphabet Sisters" by Monica McInerney. This fiction book was so heartwarming that it made me cry. I believe i used about 10 pieces of tissue. haha...
The storyline was simple to understand. It was about these three sisters who were named Anna, Bett(short for Elizabeth) and Carrie. They grew up performing on stages, having girls' squabbles and joys. With 3 girls living under the same roof, there were bound to be jealousy looming around them. Anna was the oldest, an elegant and pretty girl. Bett was the second, musically talented and the not-so-pretty of the three. Carrie was the youngest, with the best accessories a girl could every ask for, a gorgeous beauty in other words.
As time went by, Bett met a guy called Matthew. Upon meeting Carrie for the first time, Matthew fell in love with her. There was a strong passion growing between them. Eventually, they became a pair. Bett was upset. This led to a big row with the other two sisters. Anna was dragged into it while trying to be the peacemaker. She was hurled insults by her sisters for marrying a guy, Glenn, for money. This incident caused the three of them to separate and lead their own lives.
Three years later, Lola, their beloved grandmother, ordered them to come backto Clare Valley to celebrate her 80th birthday. Having seen that her grand daughters were still ignoring of each other, she decided to come up with another plan. She wrote a musical and wanted her three grand daughters to perform and organise it for her. Eventually they agreed.
Auditions and rehearsals were carried out. The three sisters resolved their unhappiness with each other and were on talking terms again. The big day came where the musical was performed by the folks of Clare Valley. It was quite a success and everybody were galloping with joy.
However, two days after the musical, Anna was diagnosed with lung cancer. After going through serveral rounds of therapy, there was no improvement and she decided to lead her final moments happily in the motel, owned by her parents. The touching scenes here made me sob so hard. That's why i cannot read highly emotional books. They just make me cry.
In the final few weeks, Anna spent much time with her daughter(Ellen), lover, husband, sisters, parents and grandmother. It showed the emotional sides of human beings. The love, care and concern showered over a dying person. As expected, Anna passed away. She wrote a letter before she passed on. I can't remember what was exactly written but it made me use another few sheets of tissue.
And of course, the happy ending a few years after Anna's death. Bett was with Daniel and Carrie was with a baby named Delia (A-B-C-D-E).
Anyway, this is the summarized version of the book. haha... ok. i know it isn't very summarized. But this book is worth remembering. =)
