Awaiting the arrival of my audit tutor, baoyi, the three musketeers and i stood at the open area outside the lecture theatre. It was 5+ pm in the evening. Other than people from our class, that area was empty. Three guys in formal wear came strolling towards us. The three musketeers dispersed while baoyi was still busy munching on her chips. I stood beside her enjoying the view that i can get. Just then, one of the three guys approached her. Hearing the word "survey", my first reaction was to shun away. Baoyi was giving me that look of a pitiful kitten. So, i walked back to join her. She placed ticks on various boxes provided and returned the slip of paper to that guy. Not long later, they approached us again. This time round, it was the entire class. Everyone looked at one another, giving uneasy smiles. We feigned ignorance but were aware of their presence. Eventually, some of them gave in and did the surveys. With that said, why do people avoid completing surveys? Here i am posting up this question when i myself encountered this situation many a times. Like many others, i tried to stay away from those who went around asking others to do their surveys. Orchard Road, schools, bus interchanges were some of the more common places. Even though we would only spend several minutes of our time helping these people, it seemed like a chore to many. Seldom had i seen a person actually taking some time off to stop and complete a survey when being approached. Even if they did, they would complete it in a haste and within seconds, that slip of paper would be passed back into the hands of the distributor. Are Singaporeans plain lazy, not helpful or just can't be bothered? Perhaps these three reasons played a fair share in amounting to what had become of us today. Surveys were created to gain more information in helping enhance and better improve the place we are living in now. Furthermore, surveys had been designed in such a way that facilitates surveyors to place ticks to the options provided. That isn't all that difficult, is it? Yet, why are people so reluctant to do them? Probably i should try answering this question myself as i rarely took time off in completing a survey on the streets. Till now, i can't figure out the reason why. Anyone?
