Origin of Moles

Bel came up to me while i was sitting at my study desk, working on my stuff. "Jie, why do we have so many moles? How did moles grow?" [While she looked at the moles on her hands and legs]. Stunned by her question, my reply was an abrupt "I dunno."
So here i am after browsing several websites, to share more about moles - the origin of moles.
The definition of moles and their appearance: Small skin marks caused by pigment-producing cells in the skin. Moles can be flat or raised, smooth or rough, and some contain hair. Most moles are dark brown or black, but some are skin-colored or yellowish. Moles can change over time and often respond to hormonal changes.
But how and why moles come about? No one has figured out the answers to these two questions yet. Moles serve no purpose on our bodies and yet they are all over us. Fortunately, they are mostly harmless and will last for 10 to 40 years before fading off. So by the time you hit 100 years old, the moles on you will be gone! lol.
However, if there are any dramatic change in a mole, it could be a warning sign of skin cancer - both the malignant and benign. Also prolonged sun exposure increases the chances that a mole will become cancerous.
Hmm.. that's about it. Lazy to research more on it. lol..
Wanna know more about moles? Here are two of the websites i had been through.
