"Vandalised heart, raped soul and a torched conscience..." One of the final words recorded by Cho before his massacre in Virginia Tech in US. Probably this name rings a bell to most now - Cho Seung Hui, the South Korean who took away 32 innocent lives before taking his own. The bloodbath was the highest recorded killing in a US school. A school should be a place for learning and safety is deemed as one of the most important aspects the school should take into account. Why had this been possible? In Virginia, kids as young as 12 are able to own guns. This is ridiculous. Is there any difference from Israel or Iraq, where kids can own their own weapons as well? US, a cultured and refined first world society, ought to revise the owing of guns by citizens. Take Singapore for example. There hadn't been any cases of student rampage or in-school killings thus far. And this is so because the Government has been very stringent in its laws in owning weapons. Only authorised personnel are able to own them. Shouldn't US adopt the same policy as well? It will definitely enhance the safety of every US citizens. Back to the Virginia Tech massacre, those University students who were traumatised by this incident would carry with them the fear of going back to school. If i were one of them, i definitely would be. I don't know whether to sympathise with Cho or to be angered with his sardonic actions. People around the world discriminated him, hated him for causing undue hurt and taking away innocent lives. But have they ever spared him a thought? Though i may not be able to understand what went through his mind, i believe events which happened in his life led him to his well-thought out killings. Those writings which carried profanities and distorted views on adults and children must have triggered something in this ticking time bomb to explode. I empathise with the bereaved families and those injured but somehow, i pity Cho. Sigh~
