Foodie!

Morning tennis was cancelled due to the sudden downpour. Resultant - i stayed home to complete my audit work. It was considered a blessing in disguise as i couldn't arrange a timeslot to submit my audit work for review on that day itself. Furthermore, i was supposed to have dinner with my family in the evening. So, i guess it worked out well eventually.

Talking about dinner, we had it at Chomp Chomp. Since it was our first time there, Daddy did all the ordering. Spending almost a hundred at a food centre, imagine how much we ate. I reckoned shellfishes are patience testers and lung strengtheners.

In addition to the shellfishes, there was a spread of food including barbequed squid and stingray, fried prawn mee, claypot frog legs and liver, satay and satay bee hoon accompanied with glasses of lime juice. Licks~

All the calories and cholesterol. Ouch... Lol.

Heavy head

Lately, time became my enemy. Gruelling work dispelled all ideas on getting home early for a good night's rest. By the time i hit the sack, my mind drifted off to lala land. My life was no longer within my control. Work became the instant manipulator.

Now, the weekend has arrived. Here i am blogging after cancelling my morning tennis, owing to the sudden downpour. Feeling sleepy having stayed up pretty late last night, i'm still hounded by the deadlines i need to meet these two days.

Working is no easy feat. It sips all my energy and restores a portion of it during the night, only to be used up fully by lunchtime the following day. Though there were times i wanted out, i can't bring myself to surrender without putting up a good fight. Furthermore, it's inevitable that i'm going to be faced with such situations for the rest of my life till that very day i dream of having, comes along.

Days turn to weeks. Weeks grow into months and before we know it, the year has ended again. Simple arithmetic tells the number of years left before adulthood strikes. Suddenly, i prefer living in the life of a teenager.

Buddy Meal & Tennis

Buddy Meal:
My seniors treated me to dinner on Friday night, at Clarke Quay's Riverpoint. As Wakaru was packed at that hour, we settled for Manhattan Fish Market which had the shortest queue. By the time we started digging in, it was almost 8pm.

For appetisers, we had grilled mushrooms and sizzling garlic prawns. These were followed by the main courses, which was a spread. Baked pan pacific dory with chips, grilled Norwegian salmon fish with chips and flaming grilled platters. The platters had grilled calamari, prawns, mussles, fish, garlic rice and lots of chips. It was delicious but extremely filling. A fair bit of food was left untouched on the table.

With our stomachs weighing us down, we remained seated and had a long conversation. I was subject to teases and 'interrogation' by the seniors. I guessed they had learnt more about me?

Anyway, we had a really good laugh over my religion. Beats me. I was too english for them and they just found it hard to believe that i'm not a Christian. Hmmm.. When i further elaborated on the gods i pray at home, they broke into streaks of laughter. What's worse was we teared from laughing too much. Geez.. Imagine conversing to a Chinese god in English. Will he/she understand? And they acted it out. Holy.. haha. Fun loving bunch of seniors.

Had a really good time hanging out with them, though it was slightly awkward. 4 seniors and a junior me. Just felt a little out of place. Oh well, at least i've seen the crazy side of my seniors which i seldom get to do so at work. ;)

Tennis:
Lots more turned up for tennis on Saturday. Glad to be able to see them. But still, i miss coach the most. Oh well, shall visit him some day.

I was out of sorts during tennis. Felt really lethargic and i wasn't focused on the game of tennis. Instead, i was bothered by the amount of work i had to complete over the weekend. Balls were flying sky high, strokes were incorrect, and more often than not, they were soaring out of the court. I hate it when that happens.

And once again, i ps Dave. Lol. Explanation given and he accepted it. Sweet bro. Shall not happen next Saturday. Haha.. Oops.

Family Day

As promised earlier, i gave a treat to my family on Sunday night at HK Hilltop Restaurant. The meal was fairly alright, though the food wasn't all that fantastic. And i finally got to taste portuguese stew. It was a mixture of thick curry flavoured, creamy sauce which wasn't pleasant to my tastebuds. There were soup dumplings as well!! Yums~!

The drinks had really unique names. Root beer and a scoop of ice-cream is named as 'black cow'. Milo with a scoop of ice-cream, sprinkled with milo powder was given the name 'gozilla'. Lol. But nevertheless, they tasted good.

After dinner, we went to do some shopping. Family togetherness is always welcoming. Missed the time spent with my family after internship started.

Days at work are getting better. Relationships with colleagues are improving, workload is manageable and the time spent with Stephie and Huiling was great. =))

Rainy Saturday

The day started out bright and sunny. But not long after, rain poured and delayed our game of tennis. While waiting for the rain to die down, Dave and i took a bus down to Queensway to meet up with Dennis and Sidney. Less than 5 minutes, we were out of Queensway. What the... wasted my bus fares. I want compensation! Lol.

Back in school, we took shelter at the pavilion and waited for the drizzle to stop. Lady luck was on our side. Before long, the skies were clear once again. All ready for tennis. 5 of us, Dennis, Sidney, Dave, Wei Kean and i took one court. Rallied for more than 2 hours before calling it a day. Energy sipped out of my body as time went by.

It was extremely comical when Wei Kean whacked one of the balls but went in the wrong direction. Instead, it landed on Sidney shoulder and rolled up his head. Laughed till my stomach ached. As expected, Sidney tried to scare Wei Kean with each ball he smacked.

Such a fun-loving group of friends. Love hanging out with them every sat for a game of tennis. Had our dinner at Bukit Timah Food Centre before going home. And thanks Dave for helping me eat my oysters, which caused u to have diarrhoea again. Lol. I'm always the cause of ur stomach upset huh? Oops...

My cheerful days

Tennis:
After work, it was time for some whacking of balls. It started out kinda refreshing, to play sports after a long day at work. However, just a short while later, tiredness took over my body. Though it was nice to meet up with old friends and have dinner like we used to, i was shagged. Tennis sessions on fridays... may not be that ideal after all.

Kbox:
The long awaited kbox session finally arrived. And it was with the gals!! Soonie, Stephie and Sher. Sang out hearts out. Didn't get all hyped up but still it was enjoyable. I loved the drinks. Special and thirst-quenching. Yums~
Duets always make us go crazy. I would screech when the pitch is too high for me to reach. There goes... spoilt the entire song. That's what i do. Haha.. And Soonie sang a Hokkien song!! Impressive. To convert those chinese characters into hokkien is a big challenge to me. What's more, both my mandarin and hokkien are beyond hope. So... hmmm memorising comes in handy here. Haha. *Claps for Soonie*

Dinner:
Along came dinner at Swensens. Met up with four other friends namely Dickson, Ying Ying, Xing Juan and Guan Hong. Queued for an hour or so before getting some seats near the entrance where the blowers were. It was so chilly that i was shivering at some point in time. Food was served only about 20-30 minutes later? And we gobbled down our food in minutes. Less than the time we spent queueing and waiting for our food to be served. The hungry ghosts which weren't brought back to hell... especially Dickson. Lol.
Anyway, once dinner was over, we headed over to Taka's Kinokuniya. Picked up some books and scanned through them. New books look so pretty but their prices are rocket high. Read once, chuck aside.. kinda wasteful. Since the bookstore was about to close for the day, out we went and left for home.
Had a great time meeting up with this group of people. Just lifted my spirits up. TA08 rox forever!

Nationality Crisis

This issue had arose ever since the first day of work. Faced with a nationality and racial crisis, i had people approaching me, enquiring on my country of origin. For the record, i'm of pure Singaporean Chinese heritage. Neither of my parents are mixed blood, so that doesn't make me one either.

I've stared at myself in the mirror often enough, but i just can't identify a Malay-looking me. Perhaps my complexion and eyes discern me as a Malay? More layers of foundation may do the job. Who knows, this could serve as an edge, an advantage, for me in a way or another.
