Hail a cab?

Looking out from the clear glass windows of buses and trains, i used to envy those who could cab to their desired location. Often than not, they would race past the buses, which left me wondering how long more i would take to reach just my stop, not taking in the time i need to be on foot to arrive at my destination.

After i started on my internship, i became a frequent cab passenger. Now, i no longer envy them for things had taken a change. Though it is the most convenient form of public transport, my history of motion sickness casts dizzy spells on me everytime i take the cab. Personally, the comfort level of buses and trains far outweigh that of a cab.

Privacy wise, there is not much of a difference for the taxi driver would shoot you glances every once in a while. Sometimes, encountering chatty drivers can really put me off, especially those who look slightly perverse. A time of relaxation turned into an ear-wrenching moment, having to put up with the driver till i get to my destination.

Furthermore, the running meter burns a hole through my pockets. Worst still if the taxi driver drives slowly and stops at every traffic junction. Hallelujah to me. Bookings at morning and evening peak periods add to the list of why-i-should-not-take-a-cab.

At times, taxi drivers seem to be driving in a drunken stupor. The sudden jerks and weaves from one lane to another at top speed put one's heart at its mouth. One would heave a sigh of relief after getting out of the cab, which screeches loudly as it speeds off to another location. Pity the next victimised passenger.

Perhaps one of the plus points is being able to reach my destination without having to walk a long distance from the bus stop, especially after a gruelling day at work. Another would be the time when one's hands are filled with groceries and shopping bags. Or when destinations are not within walking distances from mrt stations or bus interchanges. Part with some money and get into the cab to save all the trouble.

Oh well, cabs...
