Ailing Body

A young girl with an ailing body. First the knee caps from strenuous tennis playing. Secondly, calcium concentration at the tail bone. Now, muscle bruise in my left foot during a jog two weeks back. A soon-to-be adult with so many injuries. I can't imagine how my health will be like in the next decade or so.
A brand new year's round the corner, in just 2 days' time. Looking forward to it for it spells the end of my internship in Feb. Haha.. But sadly, i'm hitting the 2s. I enjoyed my times in the teens, can't bear to part with the 1s. In fact, don't wish to be in the 2s at all for the 3s and 4s will come real soon. How i wish time could standstill. Oh well, enough whining. Gotta move on with life and accept the fact that i'm getting old and becoming an auntie to kiddos soon. Am an auntie to a 19 year old already. What's more those below 10... Argh

As always, there's a new year resolution to be made. I did mention a makeover, but i guess i rather have something else now, with all the weird nonsense befalling on my health. All i want is to keep fit and stay healthy. And that applies to everyone i know. Nothing beats having a good and healthy body. Only then can we function well.

So i hereby wish everyone a Happy 2008! Enjoy this annual celebration with a big bang! ;) CHEERS!

Happy & Merry Christmas

Christmas drifted past just like any other day. I spent the day sending and receiving Christmas greetings, churning out a half written report and playing mahjong. Didn't feel like spending the day out for the town area would be packed like sardines. Wouldn't want to be squashed in the crowd. Home was always the perfect hideout.

Received several Christmas presents. Thanks guys! Practical and useful. And lots of goodies for companion during tv and computer breaks. =)

Talking about mahjong, though it wasn't Lunar New Year, i finally got my hands on the mahjong tiles. And the addiction came strong. Having plans to play it this weekend again. Ayy, it's gonna be hard but interesting.

Back to work on Wednesday. The kill came after a week of enjoyment. My body ached and my feet was screaming in agony. Visiting the doc tomorrow for that bloody lump on my left foot. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Another long weekend break to look forward to. A good rest before hardship takes its toil on me. Predicting my fate in January - endless work, gruelling nights, eventually falling sick. Always the case of overworking and lack of sufficient sleep.

Have decided not to continue after my internship. Shall venture into a new field, if possible. I'm not at your beck and call. Your volcano eruptions are too often for my liking. Furthermore, that place lacks humanity. Treated like slaves. Can't stand it. Never wanting to step into that place again. I need something fresh.

Alright, i'm getting nowhere with my nonsensical writings. Enjoy your weekend and wishing all a Happy New Year~!

Start of My Weeklong Break

Thursday:
Yesterday marked the start of my week long break - relieving myself from audit work, apportioning some time for relaxation. And i kicked start my break with a movie. Along with sis, we headed down to Yishun GV to catch Alvin and the Chipmunks.

The trio looked so cuddly, especially Theodore. Love it to bits. The threesome was a bunch of talking chipmunks, with a talent in singing. Fate brought Dave (an inspired songwriter) and the chipmunks together, whereby the latter shot to stardom with their Christmas hit. Along the way, Ian, the aloof but successful CEO of Jeff Records, tried to thwart the relationship between Dave and the chipmunks. As always, the bad wins first. He succeeded in doing so but burnt out the chipmunks through countless practices and performances. Towards the end, Dave and the chipmunks reunited after escaping the evil clutches of Ian, leaving him to deal with the press.

Even a movie for kids showed the ugly side of human beings. This not only took into consideration Ian's character but also, the way Ian's staff treated Dave when his music piece was described as thrash by Ian. Discrimination against those of lower social status. However, it emphasized on the love people can develop for one another. That was really touching. Alright, enough talk about this.

Though the movie lasted a mere 1.5 hours, it was worth the money. Having had a good laugh early in the morning brightened up my day. I adore Theodore the most. Haha..

That was for the movie. Sis and i then took a train down to CWP to meet Mummy. Had our lunches to fill our growling stomachs before we started our shopping. Since CNY is barely 2 months away, we bought our CNY clothes. Weeeee~! A super long blouse which will hide my huge bossom. Lol. I suppose i'll look pregnant in it but i like it. Baggy and comfortable. Purchased another skirt to serve as a spare. Gotta get another blouse to match it some day. Sis and bro bought theirs as well. So happy!!

The night was spent completing my audit work, due for submission today. B

Friday:
Awoke at 5.45am to prepare for sis' posting day. Accompanied Mummy and sis to her new school - BPGHS in Teck Whye. The principal, vice principals and year master addressed us during the talk. I love the principal. So manly!! I stole several glances at him. Hahahaha.. Oops, losing composure. And no, i'm not eye-ing him. Just that manly guys catch my attention.

Anyway, his presentation was short and sweet, wrapping up the briefing and all in no time. Time for long queues and patience training. Bought sis' books which weighed a tonne.

Shortly after Mummy brought sis to buy her school uniform at the other end of the temporary campus, i received a call from her form teacher. How unlucky can i be? Heaving the bags of books up three storeys, her form teacher told me that he needed my signature to approve my sis taking up HCL. And bloody hell, the form needed her signature too. Argh!!! I had no choice but to hurry all the way to the other side of the school to find my sis. Bits of perspiration ran down my back as soon as they formed. Rushed back to her classroom to hand in the form after getting both Mummy and sis' signatures.

Sweet Daddy knew we would be struggling with all the books, uniforms and shoes, and came to our rescue. Haha. Love Daddy! He helped carry the books for they were the heaviest. Sis bought her uniform and 3 pairs of shoes. Lol. Well, it's 2 pairs of school shoes and 1 pair of sport shoes for school events.

Finally out from the school, we went to Lot 1 for lunch. Daddy treated us to Sumo Japanese food. Yums~! Had a hearty meal. The fresh salmon sashimi, hot plate salmon, beef, black pepper chicken and piping hot miso soup did justice to my tastebuds. Licks~. Of course, good food came with a price too. Oops. Nevertheless, it was a good, satisfying meal.

After which, as promised, Daddy bought sis a pair of Reebok sport shoes. She was full of joy. Haha.. At long last, Cinderella found a pair of sport shoes that fits, but too bad, it doesn't come with a prince charming.

Cabbed home after that for we were too shagged to take the train and bus. And i skipped tennis again. Sorry guys. A pig in the making. =x

Sunday Joy

Early in the morning, i dragged myself out of bed to go for a jog. Barely hit 2km and my feet was killing me, only to find out that my left feet swelled. Shucks...

Later in the morning, bro, sis and i headed down to MS for lunch with Stephanie and Jessica. It was so much fun!! As usual, our glutton appetites surfaced. Pasta, large pan pizza, spicy drumlets and garlic bread. The plates and pan were specklessly clean. Loved having lunches with Steph and Jess. Never once was it disinteresting. I enjoyed every moment of it. Steph is still as crazy as before. *Huggies*

Met up with Stephie, Baobao and Soonie for a short while. Passed them some presents before joining my family again. We were on the lookout for Giant to get some coffee powder. Heard that it had been replaced with John Little instead. Then, Steph spotted a bun shop nearby. She bought us some steaming hot black sesame buns. It was yummilicious! Thanks Steph!!

Walked into Muji Jap store to take a look but nothing really caught our eye. Since it was freezing cold inside, we headed out to get some fresh air, also to escape the coldness. Unfortunuately, it drizzled less than 5 mins after we were seated. Back in we went and decided to rest at the foodcourt. Haha, we are a bunch of foodies. Got some drinks and sat for a short while.

It was about time Dua yi fetch them. Here, we parted and home we went. Looking forward to the next outing together. =))

Living a life of poverty

Money gives us a sense of security, enabling us to buy our necessities and splurge on luxury items every once in a while. Enjoyment didn't last long. Today, i'm broke. Left with less than $40 to spend for the next couple of weeks... i guess i'd better stay home.

How ironic can situations get? I had enough to spend when i was in school even though i was not taking up part-time jobs. Now that i'm on internship, my bank account is running dry. I'm spending almost more than what i can recoup. And further blows to my only asset will come when January end approaches.

How am i to survive with this petty sum of money? Furthermore, i plan to take up driving once i'm out from my internship and that's going to cost a bomb. That only means i have to struggle for the next few months to come. Sigh...

Never thought that things could get to such a state. Not only did i cancel appointments, i even had Daddy pay for my lunch tomorrow. That's when the going gets tough. Well, i'm truly sorry for cancelling the appointments last minute. Perhaps when i have more to spend, i'll join you guys again. Meanwhile, i'm into my hibernation mode. Upsetting...

Christmas Shopping

Right after work, i took a train down to Lot 1 at Choa Chu Kang to do some Christmas shopping. Well, it may not be the most ideal place to shop for gifts but it was for convenience sake. To put it simply, i was meeting a friend at CCK and hence the location for gifts.

It took me more than an hour shopping for gifts, not knowing which were the most suitable presents for everyone. Family, friends, colleagues... I guess some white hair grew while racking my brain on what to buy for each individual.

Finally i settled on what i believe to be somehow or rather suitable for each. Perhaps i do not know my friends well enough, now that i noticed. Gift buying has always been tough for me. If the presents are unsuitable, please excuse my lack of understanding.

Christmas shopping was done and i was to roam around before my friend arrives. I guess i walked around the entire shopping centre, from the basement up to the fourth level several times, before stopping at level 3 to watch 881. I was seriously bored and my feet were sore from the walking for the past few hours. I depended on 881 and people-watching to kill my time. At long last, Mr. Syafiq arrived. Imagine how glad i was.

Settled our dinner at Siam Thai Kitchen. By that time, it was past 9pm. My stomach was no longer growling. Even the mutters had faded. Still, i fed it with delicious food. Nothing too tom-yamish. Just right for me. We had a great chat, or rather, he did most of the talking. I merely listened. But still it was enjoyable listening to his experiences. No details ya? Haha.. nothing secretive but would too long winded if everything we chatted on was typed in here.

Dinner was a short affair as the restaurant was closing for the day. He was sweet to have treated me but of course, i felt bad. An act of gentlemanliness. Awww.. Lol. And there was one thing i disliked, which were the stares that came our way as we ate. Probably they were thinking too much. A guy and a girl of different races having a meal together doesn't necessary mean that we were into a boy-girl relationship. Just friends ya? Aiyo.. those people. Tsk tsk.

He offered to drive me home as it was running late. I dumbly asked if he rides a motorbike or drives a car. He had a look of surprise on his face. Lol. Fine, how would i know right? I'm afraid of motorbikes. Thank god, he drives. And he has a manual driving licence!! Something which i would never attain in my life. Auto would already be a killer, lest the manual.

It was darn hilarious when i didn't know the way back home from Lot 1. I'm lost when it comes to road directions. And he didn't know how to get to Yishun. Omg. Initially, i thought he was merely pulling a fast one on me. Who knows, it turned out to be true. =.= Luckily for his PDA which has a location detector function. Phew.. It was pretty late by the time i reached home. Tired tired tired, just wanted to lie on my bed and sleep through the night.

The night had been splendid. Thanks dude! Owe you one. =)

Taxi Fare Hikes Getting on my Nerves

First the basic fare rose by 10 cents several weeks ago. Well, that’s a miniscule increase and didn’t appear to be much of an issue. However, in the newspapers today, the drastic hike in taxi fares got my blood boiling.

Not only will the basic fare increase by another 30 cents, both surcharges and meter fare will be raised as well. In the latest overhaul, every 385m covered will incur 20 cents compared to the previous 440m which bore the same price. And after the first 10km covered, an additional 20 cents will be charged for every 330m traveled. The only consolation is the auto booking fee, which dropped by a mere 50 cents from an initial $4.

Well, it doesn’t cause much of a difference, does it? A 12.5% decrease against a 10 – 49% increase still results in an overall percentage increase. And that 10% increase doesn't have anything to do with auto booking fees.

Petrol prices rise, drivers feel the pinch and passengers burn large holes in their pockets. Perhaps this vicious economic cycle works that way but ultimately, the users bear it all. I really wonder how the fare increments will help the cabbies when drastic percentage increases shun off potential passengers. Let’s not take into account those who urgently or desperately need a cab.

When ComfortDelGro initiated its overhaul, did it take into consideration the physically disabled and the elderly? Or even the lower income group in Singapore? How many can afford to take such a mode of transport when the government time and again encouraged citizens to take public transportations? With its objective in reducing the number of cars on the road by jacking up the ERP to a frightening $5 during the peak hours along PIE, doesn’t the action of Singapore’s largest taxi provider contradict the intentions of the government?

It was mentioned that this decision came after suggestions from the public. But I suppose it will cause a public outcry instead. Not every Singaporean is rich enough to afford a cab when it is so expensive. So where does this head to? In the end, I don’t see how cabbies can earn or perhaps even make losses for no one is willing to hail a cab now.

Even though I come from a moderately well-to-do family, I personally feel that the overhaul is ridiculous. Slight changes could be made but not such drastic ones. Singaporeans are adverse to changes especially when their money is of concern. Right now, i rather opt for less comfort than to add on to the burden in my bank account.

My Day Out

It started out early for me on a Saturday morning. Dragged myself out of bed, i prepared for school to kick start our project video. While awaiting the arrival of our friends, we sat around chit chatting, catching up on our days in EY.

Finally when all were ready, we filmed at the library and toilet. There was an intrusion into the opposite sex's toilet. Hmmm.. no difference except for the urinals? Haha.. Anyway, it was quite embarrassing capturing ourselves on video. We weren't all that natural. Filming is really tough.

As there was no other business to attend to in school, we went our separate ways. A pity Soonie couldn't join us for lunch. Stephie and i lunched at Sumo House, somewhere in Clementi Central. We had a great time!! I enjoyed it. Haha.. We racked our brains over the places to have fun at next Saturday, but i guess all are not possible now. =(

Later on, Stephie had to meet her friend while i had to join my family at PS. Since my stomach was filled with food, dinner at that time was impossible. Hence, i sat there watching them eat. Lol.

Walking down the street from PS to Wisma, the lightings were a pretty sight. The white christmas tree sitted outside Paragon was extremely gorgeous. Daddy even took some pictures of it. My intention to shop for christmas gifts was chucked aside being tired and all. But Daddy bought me a pair of Adidas shoes. Wooo~ So happie!! Lucky me. =))

Dizzy Spells

Halfway through work yesterday, dizziness struck me, causing me much discomfort. Unable to take it any longer, my senior instructed me to go home.

My headaches felt so terrible, i couldn't complete my work assigned to me. I was of low productivity yesterday. I can't help but worry about my fieldwork, putting them on hold and it being an urgent assignment. Haiz... boss is definitely going to get angry.

Right now, my throbbing headache refuses to leave. Medicine doesn't seem to help much. Sleeping too much may have adverse effects as well. I hope all goes well today and i can be back to work tomorrow as per normal. The much needed focus and energy is of essence tomorrow. Sigh...

My Weekend

Saturday:
Skipping tennis for a barbeque chalet later in the evening, i spent my morning gaming, chatting online and touching up a segment in my report.

Later in the evening, my uncle drove my mum, sis and i to Downtown East chalet. There were many unfamiliar faces except for two handful of people whom i met earlier this year. Since i was no longer active in Maple, everything seemed to drift further apart. It was unlike last year's. At least there was Syafiq to keep us company and an occasional chat with Beatrice, Rachel and Teresa. Well, didn't stay long, perhaps the shortest bbq i've been to. But still, thanks Eric.

Sunday:
Today was exceptionally lovely. Daddy initiated going to Pulau Ubin for some cycling. Of course i agreed immediately. I'd longed to be at an island away from mainland Singapore, even more so for sporting activities.

Hurriedly we prepared and packed. Uncle drove us once again, this time round along with Daddy. As it was near lunchtime, we ate at Changi hawker centre. So coincidentally, as we searched for an empty table, Coach Dudley spotted me. *Screams!!!*

Knew how delighted and surprised i was to see him there? I nearly threw my arms around him. Haha.. Coach looked so haggard and sickly compared to the last time i saw him. Sigh. Discharged from hospital a few days ago, he was making slow recovery on his failing health. Saddened me to see him so frail and weak. But at least he could be out and eating well. Lessen the pain i felt for him.

Then came the second coincidence. Eric and friends had come to packet some food back to the chalet. And i finally got to meet Erwin, though we didn't really have an exchange of words.

After lunch, we strolled to the ferry terminal to catch our bumboat. My first time on the bumboat was fantastic! The scenery was gorgeous. Along with the waves spraying some fine droplets on my face, it was so refreshing. I wouldn't mind staying on the bumboat, riding the waves and taking in the beautiful surrounding.

Once we reached Pulau Ubin, we rented 2 twin bikes for Mummy and Bel can't cycle. Upward slopes were killers. More often than not, we had to get off the bikes and push them up. Too steep for us, these amateurs, to cycle. On and on we went, best when we were going down slope. The wind smacking our faces was exhilarating. At certain intervals, we would quench our thirsts and off we went again.

More than an hour of cycling got us seated down at one of the provision shops to have some coconut drinks. The provision shops reminded me of the times in the early 1990s. Life was slow paced and peaceful during those days, very similar to that in the present Pulau Ubin.

Resting period was over and we set off again. This time round, we covered a shorter distance and rode back to the square where we raced with two English kids. Awww.. they were so good-looking. Both were younger than me, hailing from England. Had fun racing with them. =)

That more or less sums up my weekend. I yearn to go back to Pulau Ubin for my next ride!

Enchanted

Right after work, Soonie, Hui Ling and i rushed down to AMK Hub to meet up with Stephie for some dinner and movie. I'm really apologetic for keeping everyone waiting. =x

Lucky us didn't take long before we found 4 empty seats in the food court. We did some catching up and talks about work, friends, current affairs went round the table. It was an enjoyable meal and soon, it was almost 8pm.

We made our way to the movie theatre without Hui Ling for she will be catching it some time next week. To our surprise, a lady on a stretcher was carried out from one of the cinemas. Hmmm... What movie would cause a person to end up in tears, with the husband and maid scurrying right behind, trying to catch up with the paramedics? Horror movie? o.O Simply no idea. Just hope she's fine.

Into the cinema we went and not long later, it was packed. The movie tickled me quite a fair bit. But i loved the musical portion the most. Gisele and Robert fitted just right as a couple. Nice ending for them. Oh, and there's Morgan, that sweet and chubby little girl. And yes, like any other fairy tales, it's always a happy ending, with the good prevailing and the evil dying a terrible death. That's a little of a spoiler. Well, that's more or less the ending.

Once the movie ended, we headed towards the MRT station and bade goodbye. Tired after a long day at work, though it's a Friday. Still, it's always enjoyable with the Jie Mei.

Politics

Of late, i noticed a fair bit of displeasure from various people. It is inevitable to avoid conflicts and politics, which continuously revolve around the world. Be it at the workplace, among project mates, friends or even within the family, they are bound to arise and cause much unhappiness.

Constant interaction with the same group of people day in day out would see the flaws of each individual surfacing. As mentioned always, human beings are imperfect creatures, with a certain dosage of flaws which are present within us. It only depends on how we try to curb them or refrain the devils in us from overpowering our angels. Easy it may sound, but the struggles one has to go through would sometimes be tormentous.

Perhaps condemnation would be the worst outcome. And i've got to witness it - group conformity and social influences. Honestly, i pity the victim. However, to avoid heated arguments from escalating upwards, this would be an available alternative.

It would take lots of repenting and reflection to redeem himself. Hopefully he would take this opportunity to become a better man.
