January Updates

5 January 2008:
On the first Saturday of the new year, i participated in "Experience NTU 2008" tour. Along with Priscilla, we made our way to Boon Lay bus interchange and took the shuttle bus to NTU. It is HUGE. There were lots of Halls of Residences scattered everywhere and different faculties located all over the place. To me, it was a mess. Being my first time, the school just looked too complex to travel in. Oh, there's this pond which looked somewhat like that in the Botanic Gardens. Really pretty and it's a place meant for couples. That indicates something, doesn't it?

Arriving at the Nanyang Auditorium, several speeches were made, with the first addressed by the Dean of School Admin, Associate Professor Loh Nee Lam. He was extremely eloquent and entertaining. I truly admired the way he presented himself in front of a large audience. Following that were experiences shared by a professor from the School of Arts, Science and Humanities, a 3rd year Nanyang Scholar from Nanyang School of Business (NBS) and lastly a fresh graduate from NTU Alumni.

Afterwhich, we proceeded to a room specially for NBS interactive session. Tables and chairs were laid out with breakfast refreshments by the sides. Both Associate Professors from School of Accountancy and School of Business addressed us, feeding us with useful information.

I then knew how difficult it was to get into NTU-NBS for they only recruit elites. Being the top 10% of NP may not guarantee a place in NBS. Competition is strong and many are vying for places in NBS for it's the best in Singapore. Furthermore, with both American and European accreditations, it results in NBS' degrees being more distinguished and recognised compared to other Universities' degrees. Fortunately, NUS just achieved accreditation from ACRA which may post a threat to NTU but a piece of good news to me, at least.

Apart from academic achievements, they emphasized alot on Halls. Every senior tried persuading us to live in the halls during our stay in NTU. "Save travelling costs, travelling time and sleep more", that's what they always say. But doing one's laundry and paying a monthly fee come up to almost the same price. It may bond and widen one's network in the campus but it will slowly drift the family apart. Ayyy.. not sure about that but many seem to like living in the halls. *Shrugs*

Anyway, after our interactive session, we headed down to the ground floor for lunch. Priscilla and i chatted for awhile before we went for the school tour. Haha, that's because we didn't know the buses were awaiting us right outside. Ahem... It was a short ride, with the ambassador pointing out the different schools and their specialities. That ended our NTU Experience 2008 tour. It was eventful and fulfilling.

Later in the night, my family gave me an early birthday celebration. Well, not exactly a celebration but a mouth watering dinner. We had bbq-ed stingray and squid, satay, western delights, goreng pisang and my favourite, crayfish! We ate our fill and that marked my 20th birthday dinner. =) Really happy. Bro even gave me a pair of rabbit slippers for my birthday. Haha, they are bouncy and comfortable! Thanks bro!

10 January 2008:
Yay! It's my 20th birthday. I received many well wishes and a wonderful present from the gals (Stephie, Soonie, Baoyi, Sher, Jocelyn, Huiling, Ain, Liting & Janice). Thanks everyone! The mp3 really made my day. It must have cost them a bomb. Don't worry, it will be used beyond it's depreciated amount and it's net book value will be zero very soon. Haha.. I'm using it every single day, even at home! Awww... i just love it. =) Thank you very much!

Since it was my birthday, it naturally lifted my moods. Furthermore, my favourite senior came back to clear her stuff before leaving for good. I'll miss her but at least seeing her that day made me happy. Stole the chance to stay in office and knock off early. Oops, well... working OT on my birthday sounds pitiful right? At least i didn't take leave, which is good enough. Haha.. intended to but dropped that idea.

In the night, bro bought me a cake! Suprise number 2. It was a coffee cake from Bengawan Solo. Licks~ View the pics from my friendster. See how widely i smiled. =D

11 January 2008:
Liandah, Siok Kuan and Xiu Pin treated me to Pizza Hut family feast during lunch. Woo hoo~! Felt a little awkward since my birthday was already over, but they rejected all efforts in paying them back. Oh well, thanks seniors! And we were at the client's place. Haha, it was a special moment i will always remember. About time to get them presents before i say sayonara to them. 3 more weeks!!

12 January 2008:
Met up with poly team mates to complete part 2 of our filming. It took us quite a while before we completed our plans for the day. By then, all of us were hungry. Dickson drove Stephie, Ain and i to Clementi for lunch. He's quite good, i must say. Very smooth ride. Only when it came to the reverse parking part, it really made me laugh.

In the multi storey carpark, he parked at the motorcycle lots unknowingly. As it was too cramp for him to get out from his driver's seat, he was really unglam when he climbed out from the passenger's seat. Looking at the car from front to back, he then realised that it was meant for the motorcycles after Ain told him and had to park somewhere else. LOL.

Saw Fatimah and had to pull out a parking coupon. Haha, damn funny. After this parking anecdote, we went over to KFC for lunch. Piping hot chickidies with a drink, coleslaw and whipped potato. Quite an entertaining lunch. =)

Since it was on the way, Dickson sent me back to school while the girls made their way home. And i never knew about the rules when there's the driver and a passenger. The passenger must always sit beside the driver. Shucks. Haha, i sat in the backseat and.. ahem... Ok, sorry. Didn't know. Made him my chauffeur for about 10 minutes. Smooth ride back to school. Thanks Dickson!

Time for some tennis action but sadly it rained less than an hour later. Forced to go home and continue with my work. Ayyy.. sian neh. Looking forward to next sat's tennis. Need that push to exercise.
