Once total strangers. Next, acquaintances with the usual hi and bye or an ocassional weak smile to acknowledge one's presence. Yet today, this pair of acquaintances brought the relationship a step further. It's more than just acquaintances but still not intimate enough to be considered friends. I spotted him in the queue at the bus berth. Tried to shun away or pretended i didn't see him but he was a mere metre away from me. How not to be noticed? Gave him a weak smile which he returned courteously. I failed at my attempt in sitting next to him in the bus. It was extremely uneasy. Thank God the trip was a mere 10 minutes ride. Managed to escape that awkwardness that was building up as the minute passed. He was busy fumbling with his mobile phone and i was hoping against all odds he wouldn't ask for my number. Alas, he did. Somehow, opposites turn into reality. I was at a loss. Quite apprehensive but i still succumbed to it. Keyed those 8 digits into his mobile phone and i hastily alighted at the next stop. Just hope that i will not bump into him anytime soon. But such chance encounters do happen quite often. Moreover, he's living in the same estate. Argh! Perhaps i should develop thoughts contrary to what i hope for. Who knows, it may help evade unnecessary akward encounters. Posted by Lynette at

Rode on the bus to the interchange. Moving along the same route, there's nothing much to look at for i've been seeing the same old buildings and roads every single weekday. So, i people-watched from the bus instead. At the traffic junction, the bus slowed to a stop. A guy, dressed in sports wear caught my attention. He looked oddly familiar. I then realised he was my first major crush. Haha... While the traffic light still showed 'red', i took that few seconds to scrutinise him from head to toe. Hmmm..., not exactly scrutinise but look him from top to bottom. He was all so different. The He in secondary school and the He now were two opposites. Much leaner and muscular now. Perhaps NS did him some good. Lost the pounds. Not that he was obese in secondary school but he was pretty big sized then. Just the way i liked it. Lol. I still remember the days in Secondary 3 when i looked forward to every break to steal some glimpses at him. A previous school team basketballer in jersey 10. Haha... Those days... heart fluttered at the sight of him. When our eyes met, that did it. My face would be on fire. Took any opportunity that came to go to his class. Those little dumb things that a person did when he/she thought he/she was "in love". But definitely not. I knew he was just a crush. But a major first. Feelings slowly died when he graduated from school. I only got to see him when he came back to receive his O Level results. Afterwhich, he disappeared from my life till that very day. It was good to see him again though there weren't any feelings attached now. But he looked a tad too haggard for his age of 21. Wonder why... Just hope he's leading a happy life somewhere out there. Back to tennis after a month's break. Expectedly, i was thrashed. My fitness level slid, stamina lost, strokes horribly off tangent. That's the resultant of insufficient practice on the courts. Oh well, time to pick them up again - from scratch. Poor play led to me bruising Chris indirectly. I'm so sorry. Hope the wound and bruises do not leave ugly scars on his arms. His mum's gonna have me cooked for this. =x Dinner afterwhich. Too hungry till i haven't had any appetite. For the record, i couldn't finish my meal. Wasting rice when its price is on the rise. [Wooo~ It rhymes. Lol.] Signed up for FTT. Taking it alongside Huiling. Yeah! Hopefully i can make it through in June. I can't wait to start my practical lessons on the road. Please beware of road hazards. Or rather, just one road hazard - and that's me. Posted by Lynette at

Good news came pouring in since last week. No revelation of details for people will start criticizing on how boastful i was. Haha, just like that previous university announcement i posted in my blog earlier this month. Nevermind that. May marks a series of events. A month to look forward to and have fun despite having to work. Anyway, it happens to be the last month i'll be working. Cheers! Came to a realisation earlier this week. When humans are spoilt for choices, it makes them indecisive. Who doesn't want the best of both worlds? But reality forbids. Hence, a decision has to be made eventually. When the time comes, everything will just fall into place. The ultimate choice will be submitted. That's when another new stage in life is marked. I thank my family, my friends and of course all lecturers and tutors who had guided me throughout these three years. Life in NP was fulfilling. It stretched me beyond what i thought i was capable of. It gave me an opportunity to find my passion in tennis. It brought me great friends from different courses. It gave me the experience i've longed wanted to have and made me realise what i've always wanted wasn't ideal for me. Given a chance to relive these three years, i would have done it pretty much the same way as i did. NP will always be the place i call second home. That's where i found myself. Posted by Lynette at

A last minute plan for kbox with Dave and Chris. Seemed like the vocal trainings which Chris had proved to be good. He could hit the high notes without switching to falsetto. Woots~ Three of us took turns in singing 天天夜夜 . Quite funny. Chris was attempting to hit the high notes, in tune with the music which he failed the first time round. Succeeded on the second attempt. Intrigued by the difficulty level of the song, Dave decided to have a go. Our k session didn't last very long on Sunday for Dave had a tennis coaching session awaiting him. Met up with his new colleagues whom he's supposed to guide. Haha, everyone was kinda shy and awkward. Lasted for almost 2 hours. Could only sit there and watch for i didn't have my shoes on. What a pity. But in front of a crowd of unknowns, it's pretty embarrassing to play, given my poor skills. Took 854 for the first time. Haha, country bumpkin. Gotta understand. Took in the unfamiliar surroundings as the bus rode on. Lots of private properties. Not yearning to be in one of those though. Think of all the housekeeping one's gotta manage. CAN DIE OK. Lol. Sure to lose the fabs. My Sunday ended this way. And i didn't make any last revision for my BTT which is on the following day... Dead meat. Posted by Lynette at

Recently, MRTs made quite abit of news. Splashed over the newspapers was the heavy fines imposed by LTA on SMRT for causing disruptions earlier this year between Tanah Merah and Changi MRT stations, affecting more than 57,000 passengers during the morning peak. Several days back, another train disruption occurred at CCK MRT station owing to a man jumping onto the tracks into an oncoming train. Just today, i had a fair share of my train experience. On my way to work this morning, the sickly train came to a halt twice after inching forward a little at a time seconds after pulling out from Orchard MRT station. Passengers waited patiently for the train to zoom off at full speed again towards Somerset. It did but as soon as it left for Somerset, a strong burning smell emerged. The train looked a little hazy, as if it was shrouded by a thin layer of smoke. Upon reaching Somerset, everyone evacuated. The underground train station smelt of burnt rubber. It stank. The ghostly train sat on its tracks for a good 5-10 minutes before speeding off. This resulted in the next few stations to be overcrowded with people. I was right smacked in the middle of the carriage, being pushed and shoved to greet those impatient and hasty passengers. It was fortunate that the delay lasted less than 15 minutes. Otherwise, i would be horribly late for work. Perhaps trains should be checked and serviced more frequently than they are right now. Disruptions every now and then don't make this form of transport that efficient. Singapore, well known for its well mapped out roads and train system, should continue to uphold her reputation and image. LTA ought to do something about this issue. Imposing fines may not be the best solution for it merely reduces the profit earned by SMRT. Furthermore, being the monopoly in Singapore and the most commonly used transport, it's bound to profit. To scrap trains just like how motor vehicles are scrapped is not really viable for they cost a bomb. But just like humans, trains have lifespans. When everything breaks down, it's about time their organs are removed and replaced with healthly ones. Posted by Lynette at

Along with mummy, both of us brought sis to her tuition centre. Took a train down to Causeway Point to do some shopping. Bought 2 pairs of shoes! A pair of flats and heels each. Lovin' em. I've finally mustered enough courage to get a pair of heels that's slightly more than an inch high. Fear the embarrassment, you see. Kick start with half inch heels, followed by inch high heels with broad bases. In time to come, i'll try inches with narrower bases. Haha! Guess i'll stumble with every step i take. Done with shoes, we headed to CS to get some stuff. More precise - nasi padang. Pretty delicious having tried it once few months back. Back at Northpoint, into Guardian we went to get some daily necessities. My well-spent Saturday afternoon. But i miss kbox badly!! Going back real soon for more singing action. Haha... I was called in on Tuesday afternoon for an interview at SMU. Taking time off from work, i travelled to Cityhall and it was a mere five-minute walk from the train station. So, i was way too early for my interview. Met May May, one of NP school mates, at SMU. Chatted for awhile which took my mind off the nerve-racking interview. Name was called and into the room i went. Two interviewers, one was a graduating student while the other was a professor. I was bombarded with questions. The very first question the professor posed to me was "So what are you doing currently?" I blabbled about my job which earned me another question on the sub-prime crisis in US. "Do you think financial institutions in Singapore will face the same crisis?" Holy cow... luckily Daddy and i discussed about this issue before. This earned me bonus points. *Smiles* Questions spewed from their mouths. They were never-ending. The one and only question raised by the graduating student stumped me. "Will you be intimidated by SMU's style of learning? What will you do to prepare yourself?" I was dumb founded. Haha.. i gave a terrible answer but they were really encouraging. Kept nodding their heads when it didn't make any sense to me. Thanks to the professor, she equipped me precious knowledge on preparatory work which i render would come in handly in the near future. It was a pretty light-hearted session with the interviewers being nice and all. But to strike a chord with the interviewers was perhaps the most difficult yet crucial ingredient to excel in an interview. That's where impressions are created. I suppose i failed to perform up to that standard. In fact, a far cry from it. The interview lasted a good 15-20 minutes. And i screwed up the final part on me posing questions to them. My answers could be found in the information kit handed out during the Open House, which i obviously didn't attend. But all of that don't really matter now. My performance during the interview... the results of the interview... whether i'll be accepted into SMU... because... ...my application into NTU was successful! How i wished i could jump around upon hearing the news but i was stuck in a sardine packed train. Pretty embarrassing to do that sort of stuff. Imagine the little fireworks exploding in me... Wonderful feeling. Lifted up my mood instantly. That's one jubilant me. =)) Looking forward to 4th August when school term commences. Soooo happy! Posted by Lynette at |
