Once total strangers. Next, acquaintances with the usual hi and bye or an ocassional weak smile to acknowledge one's presence. Yet today, this pair of acquaintances brought the relationship a step further. It's more than just acquaintances but still not intimate enough to be considered friends. I spotted him in the queue at the bus berth. Tried to shun away or pretended i didn't see him but he was a mere metre away from me. How not to be noticed? Gave him a weak smile which he returned courteously. I failed at my attempt in sitting next to him in the bus. It was extremely uneasy. Thank God the trip was a mere 10 minutes ride. Managed to escape that awkwardness that was building up as the minute passed. He was busy fumbling with his mobile phone and i was hoping against all odds he wouldn't ask for my number. Alas, he did. Somehow, opposites turn into reality. I was at a loss. Quite apprehensive but i still succumbed to it. Keyed those 8 digits into his mobile phone and i hastily alighted at the next stop. Just hope that i will not bump into him anytime soon. But such chance encounters do happen quite often. Moreover, he's living in the same estate. Argh! Perhaps i should develop thoughts contrary to what i hope for. Who knows, it may help evade unnecessary akward encounters. Posted by Lynette at |
