North-South

Seems like this is a week for visiting. This time round, i accompanied my parents to visit my maternal grandma. Lost some pounds, but looked much better than when she was first diagnosed with cancer. Parents did the catching up while i listened on. Definitely in a better shape than my paternal grandma...

Right after, we taxied down to Old Kallng Airport for lunch. Renovations do make lots of differences. The entire hawker center appeared to be cleaner and more spacious. Daddy did the ordering while mummy and i tucked in. Lol. Food was pretty good. Love the curry rice.

Back home, rested for awhile before heading out to school for tennis. My tennis is getting from bad to worse. Can't seem to play well at all. Simply can't hold a candle to those who played less than i did. Sad case.

Chatted with Coach. A little difficult to part with for i had been in the club for 3 years. Today was my very last day playing tennis in NP. Afterwhich, when school starts, i suppose i will not have the time to head down to NP much. I will miss those tennis mates. =(

In and out of the house the entire day... Dead beat. Hit the sack soon after bath. Zzz...

World of Sports

Visited grandma early in the morn. Saw the frail and old her... really heartbreaking. Once hale and hearty, now feeble and bed-ridden. Her body seemed to have deteriorated even further from the last time i visited her. Sad plight, i would say. Lots unsaid and untold...

Dropped by Lot 1 for lunch. Intake was less than usual. Passed all my food to Daddy and Mummy to finish. Right after, got some stationaries from Popular and headed down to World of Sports[WOS].

Finally got myself a new pair of shoes. The retail associate is quite good looking. Haha! Sis will definitely fall head over heels for those type of guys. Lol. Joking. She'll have me killed for blogging this.

Bought a pair of shorts too. Running out of them. And Daddy signed me up for WOS membership. Whoever wanna purchase Mizuno, Columbia and/or OutDoors sportswear, please look for me! Discount of 15% with membership card. Haha...

On the way out from Lot 1, met my primary school friend, Leonard. The primary school heart throb during those days. It's been ages since i last saw him. Probably 8 years ago. Amazingly, we managed to recognise each other at the same time. Still looked like before except that he's more mature and chubbier looking. Lol.

Adjourned to Causeway Point after that. Bought dinner from a Malay concessionary stall in CS. Cold Storage is definitely the favourite hangout for Daddy and Mummy. Never fail to enter when they get to CwP. And it's Metro again. Bought what was necessary and poof! back to our lovely home.

Hair Rebonding

I've put up with the frizziness, split ends and damaged hair for 20 years. Dad was a constant critic of my unkempt hair. Not that i wanted it this way... Sick of having to clear those loose strands and those entangled ones caught in the comb, i put a stop to all of that yesterday. Enough was enough.

4.5 hours... I was perhaps their longest sitting-in customer for the day. Business was brisk. People came and go while i still sat on that arm chair, wondering when was the time i could walk out that door.

It took forever. First up was hair cutting. Trimmed here and there, had my fringe snipped shorter, layered my hair again so that the hair wouldn't look too bulky... The usual that i had when i go for a hair cut.

A while later, the hairdresser smeared some substance over my hair. It was horribly piercing. I was chemically intoxicated. Every gasp of the air, i smelt the stench all around me. I could hardly breathe. For once, how i wished i could live by without breathing. I was urgently in need of detoxification.

Thank God, it was washed off after what seemed like eternity. Then came the straightening part. That was fun. The heat was comforting but towards the end, my hair felt like it was on fire. The sides of my face were heated up but soon after, the steam evaporated and the heat dissipated. Ohh... felt wonderful.

I thought that was the end of it. Damn. I was so wrong. It was another hour or two before the entire process ended. Thereafter, she smeared another substance all over my hair again. This time round, i sniffed the air around, hoping it wasn't as pungent as the previous. Phew... It wasn't. Smelled pretty sweet actually.

A second wash. Hair washing felt real good. Free head massage. Haha... After the hairdresser dried my hair a little, she spreaded treatment over my hair. Shit. That's another 10 minutes of waiting for the substance to set in.

The final hair wash. Only the straining of the neck was uncomfortable. I had my neck strained for all three washes. Now, i'm experiencing the after effects of it. Argh...

I was so god damn happy that this never ending process was nearing completion. But then, she started taking out her scissors and comb again. SCREAMS!!!

She's professional in her job. That, i have no issue with. But, i was sitting there for the past four hours, surviving on 300ml of water and 1 bloody sweet. My stomach was grumbling like crazy then [ i hadn't had my lunch, you see...]. Oh geez, when she kept her hairdressing instruments, i jolted up from my seat, paid up and left. By then, the clock read 4.00pm.

Expensive job done. Hair's finer and smoother. Time to satisfy my growling stomach...

Kbox @ Cine 14 July 2008

My fortnightly kbox sessions were put to a stop after Dave went into NS. I lived without it but was itching for one session until the gals organised it. Woo hoo~!

This Monday, we had an afternoon session at Cine's Kbox. Fun fun fun! I love the green apple from the rainbow series. Flavoured thirst quencher + squashy cubic jellies.

Free show in the next room where the Secondary school girls got really high. They were... dancing with their hands. Whatever that means.

So were the gals. Busy flashing shots at one another.

Soonie and i duet 一眼瞬間 which sounded much better than the previous time we attempted. However, another failed attempt at 珊瑚海. Haha! We tried but still, it didn't seem to work out well. NO MORE 珊瑚海!

NTU Medical Check-up

It took me a freaking 1.5 hours to reach NTU. Not taking into account NTU students were enjoying their holidays and the bus and train arrived just as i reached the bus stop and platform respectively. Adding up all the waiting allowances, that will be almost 2 hours before i alight at NTU which means i still need an additional 5-10 minutes before getting to my desired location. Shee-it.

Compared to Soonie, i guess i'm luckier. She took almost 2 hours just to reach NTU. Anyway, our main purpose to NTU was to get screened. That compulsory medical check-up. Quite liked the idea for i hadn't done any in my life. An avenue for me to ensure that all results were negative - i am healthy.

The problem was getting to the medical centre. Haha... first the lifts were slightly confusing until a professor [he should be one?] explained to us that we were at B5 due to the hilly structure of NTU. So to get to B2, we should go UP instead of DOWN.

But somehow we were stuck at B2 for it was separated between the two adjacent blocks. Yadda yadda yadda... we went up and down, up and down... until we finally got to the medical centre. Wooo~ felt really happy. Lol.

After the medical screening, i had to submit forms at the Student Services Centre [SSC] which looked really nearby in the map. It was but way up high. Once again, we met with dead ends and had to retrack our steps. Two kind souls directed us the route to SSC. We had to take the lift to the rooftop just to climb more steps to get to SSC. OMG.

More than an hour circling just a tiny part of NTU, we were already tired out. What's more the rest of NTU. It's H.U.G.E.

Given 3 years to explore NTU, ill make sure i get to every nook and cranny of this majestic empire before i graduate.

Thereby presenting 2 lost souls in NTU. Self-exploration was fun. Haha... =))

Shokudo & 21

The turnout for the supposed Yr 1 class gathering was pretty pathetic. But nonetheless, i enjoyed each and every single one of their company. A total of 6 of us namely Xing Juan, Stephie, Bao bao, Xhi Ween and Guan Hong.

Lunch @ Shokudo:
Interesting card payment system. Accumulate the dollar amount of each dish ordered, capped to a maximum of S$100, and make payment before exiting. Saves the hassle of digging for notes and coins every now and then when one wishes to make an order.

Different from a typical restaurant, one doesn't get the chance to warm up the seat for long before making another trip to get more food [no matter what, you've just gotta leave the seat at least once].

Stalls are located at all areas in the restaurant. Seats are self selected. There are no waiters/waitresses to usher to a specific seat. And seats at one side are totally different from those at the other end. Very unique layout.

The array of food are entirely Japanese cuisine as its name suggests. We had a table full of rosti with curry, seafood ramen, assorted mushroom and veg soup, prawns, and omelette seafood rice with chicken chop. In addition, we also had ham and cheese omelette, and cookies & cream ice-cream waffle. I love the latter two! Lip smacking good!

Each of us spent an average of $15 or so. Quite reasonable considering the amount of food we had. And what was more important was the catching up and non-stop teasings! Another thing good about this restaurant is it doesn't chase customers out once they finish their food. We sat in till we decided to go for a movie at 4pm [no earlier plans made on that].

21:
As mentioned above, we settled for 21. Personally, i did enjoy the movie. Perhaps because it had something to do with Math and the stars in the show were fresh and young. I suppose this movie was meant to target teenagers as well as young adults.

Ben, an MIT college student, was offered a place in his dream school - Harvard Medical School. He applied for a Robinson's Scholarship worth $300,000 which aimed to select the elite of the elites. Unfortunately, with his current elitist results, it did not dazzle the Dean for others were equally as good.

With a mundane life, it was almost impossible for him to obtain the Scholarship. And that equalled to him being unable to enrol into Harvard due to the cash shortage.

As he's a genius and extremely gifted in Math, he was approached by one of his lecturers [Micky] to join a "club" where they counted cards.

Counting cards in this case meant -1 for cards (10, J, Q, K), 0 for cards (2-9), +1 for Ace [If i didn't remember wrongly]. The desire to earn that $300,000 instead of trying to rely on the Scholarship, took him to Las Vegas. There, he trumped in Blackjack with the help of his team.

His life changed since then. He found the thrill and earned big through this job. He neglected his friends and 209 competition [an IT competition]. Now, earning $300,000 wasn't enough. He yearned for more. That's when his emotions ruled over his head. No longer counting cards but gambling as they put it.

And that's where he stumbled and fell. He fell real hard. He was worse off than when he wasn't even involved then. Everything was taken away from him - Micky's doing.

But he never gave up. He was determined to get back everything he lost. In cahoots with the Lost Prevention Officer [Cole Williams] in the Las Vegas casino, he outwitted Micky and lured him back to the casino to be the big player.

Micky had an old feud with Cole and the latter wanted to settle it with him. So Micky had his retribution while Ben finally made it to Harvard.

With such an extraordinary life experience, that indeed dazzled the Dean...

Moral of the story: Greed is the root to all evils. Never allow money to rule over your head.

Hancock

Together with Eugene, Chris, Tailun and Weijie, we met up at Cineleisure to catch Hancock. It portrayed Will Smith as Hancock, a superhero who possessed extraordinary strength. Imagine him flinging SUVS around and getting rammed into by a train but remained unscathed...

Unrealistic it might be, it surely was entertaining. Unfortunately, the camera shook quite abit and left me nearly puking. How much i wanted to watch the entire show but the dizziness was driving me crazy. I had to shut out every now and then to ease the nauseate in me.

Finally the show came to an end. Relieved me from my discomfort. Then we headed over to Taka for dinner at Breeks. The hotplate salmon steak i had was fantastic! Every single piece of food on the hotplate soothed the tastebuds.

Afterwhich, we adjourned to Swensens for desserts and finger food. With 4 guys, it can't be anything too little. So we dug into a GIANT Earthquake. 8 large scoops of ice cream. Though sinful, we thoroughly enjoyed it. My favourite was the lime sherbet. Totally different from others. It doesn't have a creamy taste to it. Quite icy and literally melts in the mouth.

As we savoured the taste of each scoop of ice cream, we chatted about almost anything we could think of. Since we had no intention of leaving early, we sat in and ordered fries to pass our time.

I believe that meal requires more than three 2-hour sessions of vigorous tennis to burn off the calories. Oh man... Gotta hit the courts soon.

Thanks Eugene for the movie treat! =)

VivoCity

All the way down to VivoCity, eager to get our hands on the tauhu goreng, only to be disappointed when the stall had been taken over by others. Sad.

So Daddy, Mummy and i settled for some other food. I ordered a plate of nasi lemak which cost me almost $10!!! $9.40 to be exact. Sheesh. When i saw the price appear on the cash register, i went "berserk". Daddy returned me a shocked look and we walked back to our seats exclaiming over the costly plate of nasi lemak. OMG OMG OMG!

Haha, Daddy was so understanding. He took the time to rationalise the reasons for the steep price of the food. In fact, everything there was pretty expensive. Not only the food. Just walk into any of the shops and the price tags automatically usher one out.

Puma, Tommy Hilfiger, Topman, Nautica, etc. Not at all suitable for the mid-class families to shop for luxurious goods. Can see, can touch, but cannot buy = window shopping. I saw a bag in Tommy Hilfiger which looked so pretty. A spacious sea blue bag with a layer of gloss on the outside. I didn't even bother to look at the price tag then. Must have cost a bomb.

Mummy loves to shop in marts. Perhaps it's every homemaker's favourite place? Giant, CS Marketplace... Giant really lives up to its name. Really enormous in there. Wonder how much is its monthly rental...

On and on we walked until we came by The Cocoa Tree. Chocs and sweets! I love the former. Definitely a must-go for the sweet-tooth. We purchased some chocolates having tasted it some months back. Thanks ah di. Haha...

Afterwhich, we adjourned to Chinatown to buy dinner and tomorrow's breakfast. Yums~
